What is facTotum?

History

A long time ago, in a forum I had come to love and frequent, I stumbled upon a post asking for a programmer who could realize a pretty clearly sketched out concept with a fairly minimalistic UI. The only (slight) hurdle, that others had come across before me, was that the program should not require the user to install any third-party software. At that time I had just gotten my feet wet working with Qt, so I decided to take on the task - nothing beats learning-by-doing.

The piece of software that was supposed to be able to launch other software (it was intended for games/emulators but can technically be used for many more purposes) became a pet-project of mine. Now, several years later, I decided to release it to a hopefully slightly larger audience.

There are a lot of smaller features to facTotum right now, but at its core it presents you with a table of entries (each with whatever information you may have added and whatever images you wanted to display along with the entry), each of which can launch a multitude of other programs - or not. You decide.

So, what is it?

A fast, simple and portable program-launcher.

I don't want to go into too much more detail in this post, but I definitely want to link you to some introductory videos and some screenshots I asked users to supply me with. The first video is a little more elaborate and was recorded on Windows 7, the second one is very short and was recorded on Manjaro XFCE.

Downloads

facTotum currently runs on:

• Windows (XP and newer)
• Linux (tested on Ubuntu 14.04, Xubuntu 16.04, Mint 18, Fedora Workstation 25, Manjaro XFCE 16.10, Debian/Sid w/ XFCE)

If you want to try out facTotum for yourself, here are the download-links for the current version:

Both versions can be extracted into the same directory, should you want to use a single installation of facTotum with multiple operating systems.
